What is Foursquare

"Foursquare" is a biblical term used of the tabernacle in the book of Exodus, of the Temple of the Lord in Ezekiel 40:47, and of heaven, as described in the book of Revelation. The term "Foursquare Gospel" was given as the inspiration of revival to the denomination's founder, Aimee Semple McPherson, during an evangelistic campaign in Oakland, California , in 1922. It represents that which is equally balanced on all sides, established and enduring. Such confidence in the power of the gospel is also expressed by the verse, Hebrews 13:8 proclaiming, "Jesus Christ the Same, Yesterday and Today and Forever."

Aimee McPherson has been quoted as saying: "We do not preach salvation, but we preach Jesus Christ, the Saviour. We do not preach healing, but we preach Jesus Christ, the Healer. We do not preach Pentecost, but we preach Jesus Christ, the Baptizer with the Holy Spirit. And we do not preach eschatology, but we preach Jesus Christ, the King soon to return to earth to gather His church."

Jesus Christ, The Saviour, has fully provided redemption and forgiveness to every one who turns to Him in faith, believing that His provision on the cross is fully capable of saving every man, woman or child and then transforming them into those ready to inhabit Heaven.

Jesus Christ, the Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, is the one John the Baptist pointed to as he said, :I indeed baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.:  Mark 1:8  Jesus informed the disciples, “Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high: Luke 24:49.  Just before He ascended into Heaven, Jesus reminded them to remain in Jerusalem where “you shall be baptized with the Holy spirit not many days from now,” Acts 1:5.  On the Day of Pentecost, the church was empowered for all ages to reach the ends of the earth.

Jesus Christ, the Healer, provides hope and healing for those who are ill and/or are caught in the bondage of addiction, and while transcending but not dishonouring human/medical skill, works miracles beyond human possibility.

Jesus Christ is the Soon-Coming King who promised to come again and receive the Church unto Himself.  The eschatology of the Foursquare Gospel is not established on a certain pattern of events but simply on Jesus’ promise to return.  Our response:  “Even so, come quickly!”  We wait expectantly and excitedly, while witnessing with determination and diligence.
